“We help people help themselves,” says Kevin Lee, Harvest Project’s Development Officer. “Our motto is ‘Extending a Hand Up, Not a Hand Out.’”
Harvest Project was formed to help residents of the North Shore, a Metro-Vancouver region, to overcome serious family crises by providing coaching, groceries and workforce re-entry resources. Its goal is to bring stability to families in crisis by providing resources for people who are going through serious challenges to participate more fully in the community.
Not-for-profit organizations often rely on funding from government and donations, which can be unpredictable. Harvest Project looks to the community and community-based organizations for its financial and volunteering support. Vancity provided Harvest Project a $75,000 line of credit, which has helped the organization provide consistent client service during leaner times and increased demand.
“A line of credit has been great tool to have in our kit during critical times,” says Kevin. “We have been able to build and expand our programs to save hundreds of lives in this community. Our neighbours facing crises can be supported compassionately and effectively; if help comes at the right time, it might change the course of a life.”
