Meet Bill Cunningham.

Executive Vice President of Business and Commercial Banking.

With over thirty years of experience in commercial banking, Bill is known for being a vibrantly optimistic, approachable, collaborative, and outcome-focused leader with extensive expertise in the areas of people management, public policy, sales, customer service, risk management, and commercial credit. As Vancity’s Executive Vice President of Business and Commercial Banking, Bill is in charge of driving growth with impact, strengthening profitability, and delivering innovative solutions to improve member experience.

Bill began his commercial banking career at TD Bank, where he advanced to District Vice President, leading TD’s commercial banking team in the Fraser Valley. Since joining Vancity in 2019 as VP of Community Business and Real Estate, Bill has been a driving force in supporting business members through initiatives like Vancity’s Canada Emergency Business Assistance (CEBA) loan program and Unity Women Entrepreneurs program.

Recognized with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for Community Service in 2012, and the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award from Simon Fraser University in 2019, Bill has a strong track record of community involvement. He has served on a variety of community boards including as Chair Emeritus of Simon Fraser University Board of Governors, past Chair of the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association, and past Chair of the Centre for Digital Media - Great Northern Way Campus Trust. Currently, Bill serves on the Board of the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation and volunteers for the NHL/NHLPA First Shift program, introducing the sport of hockey to newcomers and new-to-hockey families.

Bill holds a B. Comm from the University of Alberta and an MBA from Simon Fraser University. In his spare time, Bill enjoys attending hockey games and going on camping trips with his two children.
